Nonrock Nehem
Obsidiman Warrior
Nonrock Nehem is still a mystery, even to himself.
This tremendous and powerful Obsidiman Warrior walked out of the hills
of Landis with no memory of his past. He only knew one thing: in the
town below, there was a Human Named Phylinius Goldstar, and he must
protect him. He remembered nothing of his past, nor even how he got to
be in Landis, and could feel no connection to his Liferock or his
Liferock brothers. Despite this seemingly crippling loss, he has thrived
with the Samsarans, and grown to know a little something of his past.
Nonrock also practices a vow of silence, and tends not to offer his
opinions on things, letting his actions speak for themselves. When he
must communicate, he writes his answers on parchment, which he always
carries.
When journeying to Urupa, he encountered the
remains of the Nehem Liferock brotherhood there, who recognized him
immediately. They took him in and explained that since the corruption of
their Liferock, they had attempted to use their own time in the Dreaming
as a replacement Liferock, thus maintaining their sanity and providing a
place of refuge. They said that many hundreds of years ago, before the
Scourge, Nonrock had left them to wander Barsaive. They knew nothing of
what had happened to him for all those long centuries, and the loss of
their Liferock has prevented them from finding him.
During the battle with Mara Corovan, the Dragon
Charcoalgrin gave him the Sword of Vargas, the legendary dragon slayer.
It is not known why she would hand him this powerful weapon against her
own kind, but she claimed he would need it one day. After the battle,
his memory recovered a little, and he knew for sure who had robbed him
of his past: The Denairastas of Iopos. He has sworn an oath of vengeance
against the clan for this, and continues to pursue it during his travels
with the Samsarans.
After aiding the Great Dragon Dvilgaynon, she made
an attempt to restore his Pattern and his memories. The resulting repair
gave him back some of the power he had lost, as well as some of the
memories. He remembers now living in the wilds of Barsaive, many years
before the Scourge. When a Horror-marked Elf murdered his brothers in
cold blood, he swore to hunt him down and make him pay. He spent many
years chasing the Elf across Barsaive and back, until finally the
Scourge began to be too much for even him, and he retired to a small
kaer to hibernate throughout The Long Night. This is the extent of his
memories so far, although Dvilgaynon hinted that further repairs to his
pattern might reveal more of his past.
Nonrock is huge even for an Obsidiman, standing
nearly nine feet tall and weighing almost a half ton. His jet black skin
has many jagged-looking ridges all over, and his troll-sized plate mail
bears spikes and barbs in various places, to provide more pain for his
enemies. He carries a tremendous two-handed Greatsword, easily the
largest weapon either his friends or enemies have ever seen.
