Brimmel Troddenfoot
Dwarven Weaponsmith and Lightbearer
Brimmel Troddenfoot grew up in Throal, in his
family forge. All the Troddenfoots (Troddenfeet!) have been
Weaponsmiths, and Brimmel took to the Discipline early, learning at the
feet of his grandfather. When the Huari Rebellion against King Neden
struck, Questors of Raggok rampaged through the city during the rioting,
setting off explosions and killing at random. During the battle, Brimmel
was nearly caught up in the stampede for the doors, but then a
charismatic Human began shouting orders and trying to control and calm
the mob. Phylinius Goldstar had stepped in, and led Brimmel and a small
group of Name-givers back towards the palace, in defense of the king.
Brimmel was instrumental in protecting the king from the rioters and
terrorists, but upon returning to his forge discovered that his entire
immediate family had been slain in the rioting. With nothing left for
him in Throal, he joined the Samsarans.
During their exploration of the ruins of Emmerlich,
Brimmel happened upon a battered, rusty Dwarven broadsword. Though it
was practically worthless, he sensed some magical energy from it, and
upon further examination discovered that he had found the legendary
blade Purifier. Or so it seemed, until he took it to another Weaponsmith
in Throal. This Weaponsmith assured him that it was not Purifier, as
many fake copies of the weapon had been created. These fakes were
designed in an attempt to fool the Horrors, who greatly feared the
weapon and tried many times to destroy it. Hundreds of these fake blades
were scattered about Barsaive, and Brimmel had simply stumbled across
another one. He was rather disappointed with this discovery, but decided
to seek out a second opinion.
In Urupa, he met another Weaponsmith with a
different version of the story: the fake blades were created not only to
fool the Horrors, but also as test for the wielder. Only a great hero
could wield Purifier, and only by a journey of self-discovery could one
discover their own inner worth. The Quest for Purifier was not to find a
weapon, but to discover ones’ true self, and thus become The Purifier.
Only one hero in a thousand could reach such heights.
Brimmel would find his strength soon enough. While
in Throal between adventures, his uncle Avrin presented him with a book
of family history, that his father had asked him to guard. According to
his uncle, when Brimmel was very little , his grandmother was marked by
a Horror. She had grabbed the book and thrown it into the forge, and his
grandfather had grabbed it out of the searing flames with his bare hands
to save it. After that happened, Brimmel’s father took the book to his
close friend, Brimmel's “Uncle” Avrin, and asked him to hide it away.
Upon reading this book, Brimmel discovers something amazing: not only
was his great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather one of the
Weaponsmiths that created Purifier, but they were also Lightbearers,
among the very first. This was clearly his destiny.
When the Horror Hash-aa-gik returned to Throal to
have his revenge on the Samsarans, Brimmel was the only soul able to
resist his terrible power. He defied Hash-aa-gik, shrugged off the
Horror’s attacks, and struck him a mortal blow with the Purifier,
breaking the illusion hiding its true form and unleashing its power.
Brimmel has since been invited into the Lightbearers, and has begun his
destiny of battling the Horrors wherever they may be. He is
currently building his Heartblade, and considering learning the Horror
Stalker Discipline.
Brimmel dresses in the best clothes he can; seeing
himself as a merchant, he knows the value of looking his best at all
times. He is also very proud of his long red hair and beard, and keeps
it clean and braided at all times. On the other hand, he proudly wears a
fine suit of Dwarven plate mail into battle, and is not the least bit
afraid to get down and dirty battling Horrors, Mad Questors and slavers.
